About us

Grab has evolved from humble beginnings into Southeast Asia's go-to super app. We're ingrained in daily life, impacting millions positively. Learn more about how we drive change and create ripple effects of growth and empowerment across the region.

From humble beginnings (and an ambitious idea)...

Inspired to make taxi rides safer in Malaysia, our Co-Founders, Anthony Tan and Hooi Ling Tan launched the "MyTeksi" app in 2012.

With investment and growth, it became GrabTaxi – expanding to the Philippines and Thailand by 2013 and in 2014, it became the region's biggest e-taxi fleet in Singapore.

GrabBike hit the streets in 2015 providing on-demand bike rides throughout Vietnam and Indonesia. Expansion continued with GrabCar+ (for private car hire) and GrabExpress (for instant, trackable parcel delivery) launching in the Philippines, solidifying Grab's role as a go-to mobility and delivery service in Southeast Asia.

...to Southeast Asia's superapp.

After 12 years, Grab has expanded to operate in 8 countries with approximately 38 million users each month. We continue to expand the services we offer including GrabPay, GrabMart, GrabAds and many more. With 1 in 20 people in Southeast Asia eating, riding or paying with Grab every day, we have seamlessly become part of the daily lives of millions throughout the region.

Turning the flywheel

To become a driver of change, we work to turn the flywheel. The idea is to build momentum through a series of small wins, creating a self-sustaining system that drives improvement and growth. We have been humbled to find that empowering our partners hasn't just improved their ability to support themselves and their loved ones–it has sparked positive ripple effects throughout the community.

Take Tapapa’s story for example. Once a streetside eatery in Manila with two employees, they joined Grab during the pandemic – when lockdowns caused many businesses to shut down for good. Coming online allowed Tapapa to turn their business around. Today, they are a full-fledged restaurant providing jobs to more than 20 employees, many with young families. Tapapa’s flourishing business helps create more income opportunities for hundreds of delivery partners – and so the flywheel keeps on turning!

We can all make a positive impact

At Grab, we go beyond the typical single bottom line that most companies focus on. We believe that what benefits our community of consumers, partners  (delivery/driver/merchant), and the environment is ultimately good for our business.

For example, while we have 5 million registered driver-partners, we have still been able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 48,000 tonnes through low-emission and electric rental vehicles and efficiency optimisation.

We’re all part of something bigger

We’re building a future for everyone at Grab. We help our partners and local businesses build sustainable livelihoods and prepare for any economic challenges.
